My Journey Around the World with TIMEREPUBLIK,
“TRK has made me feel like a truly global citizen”, Mark Dellit, English teacher in Switzerland.
Hi I’m Mark, I’m an English teacher and a director of a small language school in Switzerland and I have also been a member of TIMEREPUBLIK for the past couple of years. I thought it would be nice to share with you some of the experiences I have had with TRK so far.
Actually, I should say up front that I have been part of the TRK story from before it was launched as I was one of the small startup investors. A small gamble on another startup you might say, but I was actually sold on the basic concept of TRK – that we all have an innate instinct to help one another in this world, and we’re all much better off for it. So becoming a part of Timerepublik and watching it grow into something beautiful has been really exciting for me.
Now that the TRK platform is up and running, I’m “out there” as an English teacher. Now, if you are a teacher you will understand the satisfaction of being able to help someone improve their life through learning. As part of the TRK community I have been able to interact with people all around the world. I have connected with people as far away as Bangladesh, Siberia, Brazil, Italy and even close to where I live in Switzerland. I usually deliver these lessons via Skype (and I’m pretty good at teaching this way, if I don’t say so myself!).
So, an experience like helping my student in Bangladesh pass his English exam was priceless, OK I gave my time – but what about me? Well, I can tell you that I have used Timerepublik for many services such as, personal shopper (work clothes), gardening advice, computer troubleshooting a printer problem, Photoshop lessons, proof reading, configuring my iPhone and email accounts, translating a short story of mine from English to Italian, and at the moment I am organising a guided tour to an archeological site in Sicily this summer. Not bad all round wouldn’t you say? So, if you’re asking if it works for me – yep!
Really works for me. Before ending, I would like to share one more thing with you that I had not expected to happen, but which is probably the most special. My experience has been literally ‘social’. Doing a ‘favour’ for someone, or vice versa, seems to connect you with people in a much more real way. The connection, or ‘friendship’ as it were is genuine and like we say “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. Well, now I have friends as far away as Siberia, Bangladesh and Brazil and I truly hope to meet them one day. So you can see the ‘online-Mark’ is starting to feel human again. Anyway, if you need some help with an English course, or if you can help me with my Latin (I’m studying it at the moment!), get in touch and let’s do a ‘deal’!
